Isla Mujeres Affair
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
Britt says: When we decided to buy sleeping bags and go on an impromptu camping trip together shortly after we met, I knew there was something special about this girl.
Crystal says: When Britt left her toothbrush at my house. (And was soooo embarrassed when I texted her a picture of it)
Tell us about your big day!
Can we do it again?! It was so incredibly awesome. We had an idea of how the day would go, but once it was happening, everything felt like a wonderful surprise! Having all of your favorite people together in your favorite place is truly magical.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We had visited the venue (and met in person with our planners) once in the spring to ensure that it was what we wanted. We had specific decorations that we brought with us, or requested, but left most of it up to the knowledge and expertise of Sunhorse Weddings. We had a certain look that we were hoping for but didn't get too picky with a theme or colors.
What surprised you during planning?
It seemed so easy!!! We heard from so many friends how difficult and stressful it was to plan a wedding. We now have to assume they mean it's difficult if you're the sole planner! Sunhorse made the process seem like a breeze. We met with them in person at the venue to choose a menu, discuss decorations, music and any added entertainment we wanted. We had phone conversations periodically to lock down details (one was actually while we sat in front of Old Faithful in Yellowstone as we made our way across the country). And the week of the wedding we met with them as soon as we arrived on the island to ensure that we were all set for the big day. Throughout our planning they always promptly responded if we had any questions or concerns through email.
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
Hmm, not really. We would (and have) suggested to our friends who are planning their own weddings to, at the very least, hire a day of coordinator so that all the stress of planning and organizing can float away on the day of your wedding and you can enjoy every second. Jana, our planner, was a wedding ninja the day of our wedding, she made our wedding day flow seamlessly. If there was an issue or concern, we never knew. She checked in with us periodically to make sure we were having a great time and ran around in the background making sure everything was perfect.
Any advice for couples planning destination weddings now? Anything you would have done differently?
Great choice!!! If you and your fiancé have a special destination that you love, it makes that place so much more special to share it with all of your family and friends.
Anything thing else?
If anyone has room for two on their guest list, we'll gladly take those spots! We love weddings, we love to dance, and we love vacations!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
We can't choose just one! Golf carting around the island with each other and our amazing photographer (and her fantastic assistant) before the ceremony, walking down the isle, surprise impromptu Single Ladies dance during the ceremony, the speeches, the fire dancers, the dance party!! We loved every single part!!!
