New York Grooms
Tell us your love story!
Not much of a love story to tell other than we met at a dive bar in NYC at 3am. HA! We started hanging out more and more and after a few months we decided we REALLY liked each other. Have been together almost 10 years now so we guess the rest is history!
What about the proposal?
This is kind of embarrassing, but Jack proposed to me in our favorite Karaoke Bar. To me it was the most romantic thing because we used to always go to karaoke with friends when we first started dating and really bonded over drunkenly screaming into a mic. Our lives got busier as we grew out of our twenties and those random karaoke nights out got fewer and fewer. Jack took me back to our original hang out and dropped to a knee right after we did our go-to – “All or Nothing” by O Town. I always take second verse. 😊
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
Honestly it was immediate. We just really liked being with each other and we couldn’t hide that. We still like being with each other as much as possible. We’re sort of one of those weird couples that do everything together. Except shower – that’s our alone time.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We definitely knew we wanted a true New York City wedding. Jack and I recently relocated to London with our jobs, so we knew wanted an ode to New York which has been our home for 18 years and 11 years respectively. No one knew we were moving yet, so it was special to us as a huge celebration of our love, but also a celebration of our home which raised us and brought us together.
What surprised you during planning? What was easy, what was difficult?
Soooo we learned a LOT about each other during this process. The good, the bad, the ugly. Jack is check lists, budgets, and numbers, and I am dreams, dreams, and more big dreams. Thank GOD because we really evened each other out. We could not have done this without each other’s help and input. We kept reminding ourselves that this is supposed to be fun and we promised we would not make this stressful. Guess what, it got stressful, but so so so worth every second of the stress.
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
The best advice someone gave us was to make sure you plan your honeymoon to be on a beach for at least 3 – 4 days. We didn’t realize just how exhausted we would be after it was all said and done. Your body just shuts down because it’s so full of the best emotional charge you could ever feel.
Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?
Just invite them. Try to have a wedding where you can have everyone you love and want there to be there. That was the most important thing for us. We HATED the thought of cutting down our wedding list just to fit within our budget. We cut other things like the cake in order to accommodate more people and it was totally worth it. I didn’t work out for months leading up to my wedding to ruin it with some crappy cake – Kidding not kidding! 😊
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
This sounds corny, but it was watching our lives completely collide in the most loving and caring way I could have ever imagined. We both have the most incredible family and friends and having them all together was everything. Watching each other beam with joy all weekend was the best memory I can take from our wedding. I would do it all over again in a heartbeat.
