A City Club Soirée

Tell us your love story!

We met in the Fall of 2011 at a mutual friends party. Jonny actually drove us to the party, I always joke with him that I caught him looking at me thru his rear view mirror. At the party we got more acquainted, the next day we exchanged numbers and soon went on our first date.

What about the proposal?

Every year on our anniversary we take a trip. It was our 3rd year anniversary and we decided to go to Seattle. I (Josh) had been prepping for months, researched and hired a local photographer, planned that we’d go to the original Starbucks and take our announcement photo, convinced Jonny to wear similar colors as me and we went to Kerry Park. We had never been so I did not realize how small it is and being January in Seattle, COLD. After 5 minutes of being there Jonny was over it and I was nervous as ever, the park was empty when we arrived but suddenly it felt like the entire world was watching. I finally got the nerve to whisper in his ear that I loved him and wanted to spend my life with him and got down to propose. Being so nervous, I got down on one knee and grabbed the wrong hand. Jonny was so shocked but still had my back and switched the ring to the proper side. After proposing we noticed an elderly man just starring, he was so sweet and walked by to congratulate us and told us how beautiful it was.

When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?

Josh: So many things early on in dating each other stood out to me. Jonny makes me feel so appreciated and comforts me in a way only he can. I knew early on I can never be without him.

Jonny: It's hard to say when, but pretty early in our relationship. Josh is the kind of person that makes you feel special. He's supportive, loving, honest and so much more. My best days were the days we would spend together, and I knew early on as well I couldn't be without him.

Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?

When conceptualizing the aesthetic of our wedding we really wanted it to be us, all of our favorite things! From our date 1/7/17 being the date we became official boyfriends, 3 years later to when I proposed to Jonny, naturally leading to our 5yr anniversary and now our wedding date. From the fonts we selected, the symbolic meaning of the hexagon shape we used (union, balance, communication) to being on the 51st floor overlooking LA, the city we fell in love in - to our violinist playing our ‘song’ We Found Love by Rihanna while we walked down the aisle. We had the best time of our lives and got to celebrate our love with our most favorite people in the world.

What surprised you during planning? What was easy, what was difficult?

The cost of things. Easy part was the planning. Difficult part was all the DIY projects.

Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?

Advice: Start planning early and keep the DIY projects to a minimal. I (Jonny) would of made sure we got more rest the night before. We had a lot of DIY projects and stayed up working until 2am the night before.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Josh: During our first dance I remember taking a glance around the room and everyone was standing up and so many had tears of joy. I will cherish that moment forever.

Jonny: My favorite part was walking down the aisle. All the stress of planning just disappeared knowing that I was about to marry by best friend.
