Tell us your love story!
Our story began back in the summer of 2014. It all started when Danika came into T.G.I.Friday’s for her weekly happy hour outing. At that point, Taylor had been a server for about a year. Surprisingly, our paths had never crossed. On that particular day, Taylor noticed Danika from across the room and begged her co-worker to giver her the table. A simple drink order forever change our lives. The moment we laid eyes on each other, it was as if nobody else in the room existed.
With an extreme interest in Taylor, Danika began visiting T.G.I.Friday’s more often than not. After weeks of ordering nachos and Blue Moons, (obvious) flirting, sharing laughs, stories and smiles, it only ever got as far as a “winky” face on the bill. Uncertain about where things stood, Danika decided to break the ice and make the first move and ask Taylor out. In return, Taylor invited Danika to accompany her to a 4th of July party that night. Long story short, we hung out that night and all puns aside, it was nothing but fireworks.
We spent a lot of time together after that. It was as if we had known each other in another life and the universe had found a way to reconnect our souls. Nothing had ever felt more perfect and effortless than the relationship we began to build. There was no denying that we were meant to spend the rest of our lives together. Although Danika was the first to say those magical three words, Taylor was the first to ask those magical four.
What about the proposal?
The question was popped on August 19th, 2015, on the pier outside of Aloha steakhouse in Ventura, the place where Taylor took Danika on their first date which was also on August 19th, but of the prior year. Taylor had been planning the proposal months before. When the bill came, Taylor told Danika that she had forgotten a gift card in the car, something Danika made sure Taylor didn’t forget before we walked into the restaurant. But it was just a ploy. With the help of a few friends, Taylor had Danika lured outside where a laptop was waiting with a self-made music video of photos and videos of moments we had shared throughout our relationship. Simply, a tearjerker moment. When Danika stood up, she was asked to turn around. At the very end of the pier stood Taylor, patiently waiting with a rose in her hand and with candles in front of her, spelling out “Marry Me?” With a stream of tears, Danika anxiously kicked off her sandals and ran into Taylor’s arms. “So is that a yes?,” “Hell Yes!”
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
We knew we were meant to be together when it became almost impossible to be without each other.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We definitely knew that we wanted a small and intimate wedding. What mattered most to us was that we had all of our closest family and friends together to celebrate our big day.
What surprised you during planning? What was easy, what was difficult?
During the planning, we were surprised at how much we did not argue. We were just so excited during the entire process that we wanted it to be an enjoyable journey from beginning to end. The most difficult part was actually the seating chart. It was as if we were trying to put together a near impossible puzzle.
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
We wish we would have know to expect to go over budget; there are hidden fees every step of the way. Also, DIY does not mean “money-saving.”
Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?
Your wedding day is the most important day of your life. At the beginning, the planning may seem daunting and overwhelming. But don’t be intimidated, you’re the boss! Ask and you may receive. Don’t be afraid to ask for help (with anything), you’ll be surprised with how many people will step up. Honestly, we wish we could have soaked it up more. The planning and the wedding came and went so fast, it was all such a blur. Because of that, try to keep track of who has helped and with what so you don’t forget to thank them in the end.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Our favorite part of our wedding day was the moment we shared our first kiss as wives. When we turned around to walk down the aisle hand in hand, we were overcome with love and appreciation. To see our friends and family stand there, crying, smiling and joyfully cheering in support for us, was the most heart-stirring and euphoric feeling ever!
