Enchanting Outdoor Ceremony

These brides are too cool for school! We love how laid back and beautiful their wedding is! They got all of the tiny details just right and we can't stop drooling over them! The flowers, the belt, that bow tie...can you blame us!? The lovely Alison Slattery Photography filled us in on the special day, including the air guitar playing grandmother!!

Sarah and Lindsay got married on May 24th at the Jamaican Pavillion on Park Jean Drapeau. For those of you who love F1, we had to drive on the circuit to get to the venue, pretty cool!! We had been on weather watch all day and unfortunately minutes before the ceremony it started to pour. We held our breath and just hoped it would clear off. It did!!! Sarah and Lindsay remained so calm during this time, it was very impressive. Their ceremony took place in a beautiful spot, right under a willow tree while family and friends watched as they read their vows to one another. Lindsay's dad officiated the wedding, Jesse who was also a bridesmaid, sang their entrance song and Lindsay's little sister did a reading. Someone special by the name of Pnut, sadly couldn't make the ceremony but was happily watching from home wearing the perfect bow tie for the occasion. Sarah was wearing a beautiful short white dress and turquoise shoes while Lindsay had a fabulous suit tailored for the special day. Both brides looked absolutely stunning. Their faces were never short of a smile for each other and you could feel the love throughout the day.

The ceremony was followed by lawn games and cocktail hour. As people made their way inside for dinner, everyone noticed how much work the brides put into their day. Every place setting was personalized by the girls, with some fun mad libs to do. The centre pieces were flowers made out of maps and candles with mason jars flooded the venue. They also had a fun gift table with some bunting made also from maps, suitcases for cards and old expo 67 paraphernalia including Grandma Hogan's expo entry passport. Dinner began with some speeches and then the taco station opened up. The brides had a first dance that involved everyone and instead of cake they had a table full of assorted delicious donuts. Grandma kicked off the photo booth and rumor has it she may have won the air guitar contest as well. She might be the coolest grandma ever.

Organically Modern

This inspiration shoot was influenced by our occasional desire to just disconnect and live organically. We wanted minimalistic decor, plenty of succulents and terrariums galore! We loved the idea of plants being the backbone of this shoot. The suits are sleek and simple, offset by a super fab gold manicure. Of course, the show stealer was our very own Sambie, dressed to the nines in his bow tie! We love how surreal these images feel. This would be the perfect backdrop for any spring or summer soiree. So chic!

Literary Lovelies

There are some love stories that just make you swoon, in the case of Kat & Meredith, we are definitely swooning hard. Though you may have seen these beautiful ladies on Tumblr, we wanted to get all of the details of their joyous day! We asked Meredith to tell us a bit about her & Kat...

How we met: Kat and I were in college together at Arkansas State University, both theatre majors. We met my freshman year, her sophomore year, though we were really only classmates then. She went to study abroad in France for a year, and when she came back, there was an instant spark between us. I would drive her home after rehearsal, which was all well and good, but she lived 45 minutes away. I obviously had it bad. After about six months of dancing around our attraction (neither had dated women before), I asked her out. We've been together ever since.

The proposal: We had been dating about two years when we went ring shopping. I told her that because I asked her out, she had to propose. Once we found the ones we loved, we sent the rings off to be sized, so I knew I had about two weeks before I needed to be on my toes. Unbeknownst to me, my ring came in early. Chinese food has always been a big thing in our relationship; we order it every pay-day. So, on a Thursday, Kat asks if we can have people over for Chinese. I'll be the first to admit, I was really grumpy about this. We weren't supposed to have people over until Saturday, the apartment was a wreck, on and on. I wasn't really the nicest person, being really grouchy about having to clean the apartment for guests at  the last second. I didn't notice all the sweet things Kat was saying about  us and our relationship and how happy she was that we were together until everyone got there and we got some drinks in me. I got a little involved in my telling stories (I do that) and failed to notice how antsy everyone at the table was getting. I had apparently picked up and put down my fortune cookie several times. Finally my friend made a snarky remark about this, and I ripped it open, ready to come back with another snarky remark about what my fortune said about her. The fortune actually read, “Will you marry me?” And I looked over to see Kat holding out a ring. It was after thirty straight minutes of ugly sobbing that I thought to ask, “Oh my god, did I say yes?” Turns out, I had.

The theme: Something Kat and I have always had in common was our love of books. We've got an obnoxious collection of them that grows by the hundreds every year. I'm getting my Master's in Library Sciences, and Kat reviews LGBTQ fiction on the side. So having a book themed wedding just seemed to fit. It took out the need for colors (though we had a general, warm neutrals, scheme) and made for a great opportunity for DIY decorating. This wedding was definitely a budget affair, so we were able to save loads of money by going with this theme. I handmade the bridal bouquets from pages of old paperbacks (that had been set to be recycled-- we wouldn't hurt healthy books!!) and we got really (REALLY) inexpensive favors for our guests in the form of trashy paperbacks. It was perfect, cheap, and totally us.

Long Island City Lovely

At times, it seems, couples are more focused on the event of their wedding rather than each other. Not these grooms! Marios & Steve are so genuinely in love and you can see it in every moment captured. Nothing is lost in the details here, these guys adore each other and everyone around them can see it. This fête is pure joy and we could not be swooning harder!

A few words from the grooms about their story...

We met eight and a half years ago on April Fool’s day at the Phoenix bar in the East Village. We later realized we had been going there very regularly for more than two years, but somehow never saw each other. I was playing pool and Steven and his friends were watching. Eventually I introduced myself…

Our first date was a few days later and it wasn’t going very well at first. We were both a little bored until we started talking about books and realized that we both loved reading science fiction, especially two books by Vernon Vinge we both had read and loved. That was the turning point. We are forever grateful to Vernon Vinge for saving that first date.

After several years together, we had been talking about getting married for a while but wanted to wait until it was legal in New York. After we made the decision to get married, one day we were sitting on the couch, each with our laptops. Steve turned to me and said, “will you marry me?” I said “yes.” It seemed appropriate for two techie sci-fi lovers like us.

Rooftop Reverie

The beauty of this wedding is all of those sweet moments that April & Jeri shared with each other (and us, thanks to their photographer!). Their intimate rooftop ceremony is the epitome of personal. We love the purple touches! What a way to spend a New York night!
