Classic California Nuptials
When did you know you were meant to be together?
Besides falling in love, I think we both knew we were meant to be when we would talk about our values and beliefs. We both understand the importance and benefits of having a hard work ethic, we value having goals and accomplishing them, we love staying physically active whether it’s snowboarding, wake surfing, or running the stadium stairs, we want to raise our future kids without limitations and let them soar as high as their wings will take them.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We definitely knew we wanted the ambience to be elegant and classy. We thought we knew exactly what we wanted for every detail… but in the end, it turned out to be so completely different, yet so completely perfect!
What surprised you during planning? What was easy and what was difficult?
We were both surprised out how time consuming it was! We thought we were responsible by starting a whole year prior to the wedding date, but it still crept up on us. Dealing with everybody’s opinion was difficult and it made us second guess a lot of the decisions that had been made. Also, budgeting along the way was difficult. But paying as you go definitely helped! The easiest part of planning was test tasting the food, haha! It was amazing!
Is there anything you wish you knew while planning your wedding?
I wish we had a better budget plan. We were very fortunate to have amazing friends and family in our lives that helped us put our wedding together. We would’ve loved to have been able to afford everything ourselves, but we owe our wedding to all of them. ☺
Any advice for couples planning weddings?
Pick one or two things that really matter to you and do those things the way YOU want to. Everything else, just let it be how it turns out to be. Also, hire a professional photographer! Trust me, you will want the best of the best photos to capture your big day. Georgie Carlos was ours and she was absolutely amazing! And most importantly, your relationship comes first.
What was your favorite part of the wedding day?
Christy: My favorite part was the wedding itself! It was SO MUCH FUN! Also, having our first look before the ceremony began.
Shannon: I was prepared to walk down the aisle by myself and surprisingly it was my favorite part! It was the most empowering feeling knowing that that would be the last time I walked alone. Now I have my wife by my side.
