A Modern Love Story
Like all great love stories, we met on Tinder. I saw a picture of this beautiful woman who at the time was only 20 years old and six years younger than me. Naturally, her dark hair and tattoos made me swoon and I immediately “swiped right.” I was sure that if we both matched that she would be interested in the same things I was at 20 year old, partying, dancing, good times, and whatever the opposite of settling down is.
I went into things thinking they would be fun and casual, but my heart notified me that it had other plans. After a few short weeks I realized I couldn’t just settle for fun and casual, I wanted to be exclusive and evidently, so did she.
In the following years we began to learn about each other, we shared our story. We exposed our vulnerability, and we allowed ourselves to be truly seen by one another. We showed each other how beautiful our love can be and how dark our fear can be.
One of my favorite things she says to me, regardless of my behavior, I might be jumping around with excitement, crying, feeling guilty, or throwing a fit; she tells me “I love you in every form. I love you in every mood.” I have never experienced that type of compassion in my life.
We travelled to Cancun for a little rest, relaxation, and a surprise proposal. Knee deep, wading in turquoise Caribbean waters, I set up a camera and captured one of the most memorable moments of my life.
I could marry her on a beach during a vacation get away, I could marry her in my parents backyard, in a courthouse, or in a field of wild flowers. The details make little difference to me. The one thing I am sure of is that I want to spend my life with her. I want to continue to learn about her as we change and grow, so that I can love her more deeply.
