Lake Geneva Grooms
Todd and I met while both working at the Merchandise Mart in Chicago. I always thought he was cute and would pass by his showroom a lot to see a friend that worked one showroom over from him. How we actually met is up for debate depending who you ask. I say he threw a box into the hallway for recycling and I tripped over it, he said sorry, we started talking and the rest is history. His version is that he said hello to me in the hall.....booooring.
My favorite place ever to celebrate the 4th of July is at my families condo in Florida, from the balcony you are surrounded by fireworks, it's absolutely beautiful. My best friend forbid me to get engaged until after her wedding so I had no idea it was coming. On the 3rd of July, yes one day before the 4th, Todd and I were enjoying a cocktail on the balcony and taking in the gorgeous view when he popped the question. (And yes he ok'd it with Catrina) Todd and I love the thought of a destination wedding, having all of our family and friends to share in our special day was the most important. Lake Geneva gave us the best of both, it wasn't too far for our Chicago family and friends and was convenient for everyone in Wisconsin. Todd used to plan weddings and had done a few at the Abbey, and instantly knew it was for us. They had the perfect room, a big white tent that was draped on the inside, and a beautiful gazebo on the lake for the ceremony.
Brett's mother had passed away but his dad sent him her veil and he sewed in some of the lace into his and Todd's sleeve of their jacket. They also had flowers in what would have been her seat for the wedding to commemorate her. I took a photo of this and thought it was a very sweet.
The best part was we got married over Labor Day weekend and everyone was able to make it into a mini vacation, and enjoy all of the activities the resort had to offer from pools and lawn games, s'more making, and the luxurious spa and so much more.
