Tell us your love story!
We met about 8 years ago, right after Alyssa moved to DC at a mutual friends party. Crissy tried to impress Alyssa over a game of pool. After a few shots, Alyssa made it clear with a wink and knowing smile that Crissy had a few things to learn. After about 3 months, Crissy decided the 14-year age gap was too much. Fast forward and 4 years later she realized she’d walked away from the love of her life. She finally persuaded Alyssa to have dinner with her again and the rest is history!
What about the proposal?
Our first weekend away together was to Atlantic City. Neither of us were big gamblers but the road trip, carnival rides and walks along the boardwalk made for a very romantic weekend. Last year, we went back to Atlantic City for a friend’s birthday and we ventured out alone on a closed beach (shhh don’t tell!) to look out on the water and Crissy got down on one knee!
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
We met up for dinner and stayed talking for hours, Crissy looked at Alyssa and said when I look in your eyes; I’m home.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
Crissy had always wanted a beach wedding and Alyssa wanted to elope. So we agreed on a small wedding that felt like a vacation with the people we love!
What surprised you during planning?
For a life event that most people experience, weddings are hard work! I don’t know how people are supposed to all of a sudden know how to plan an elaborate event for 100 people! We couldn’t have done it without the amazing support of our wedding planner Stephanie Diaz-Eldridge.
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
Elope! Just kidding, but seriously if you’re getting married in a vacation spot start earlier. Those suggested wedding timelines are not for you!
Any advice for couples planning weddings now?
Plan ahead and then let go. Trust the people (or planners) around you. Be present and experience your magical day. Make a detailed timeline for the day of so you can wake up and just relax.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
It might be cliché but seeing each other down the aisle was the most wonderful thing. It was this incredible release of all of the days anxieties and excitements. In that moment, it was just my love and I and forever.
