A Rainy Rooftop Wedding
From the grooms:
Victor and I have been together now for close to 8 years. We met in Miami where we attended the same All-Boy Catholic College Prep School. Being gay was not so easy in Miami (as one would think) at a catholic school run by Cuban men. It was actually kind of scary. A lot of bullying and violent homophobia. But, we found each other and I believe we saved each other. We have been together ever since. Through it all; coming out of the closet, telling both sets of parents, we did long distance for two years until we both got into our dream program at our dream college (Tisch Drama at NYU) together, graduated together, and now have a dog together where we live in Nolita, NYC. I proposed to Victor in Fire Island on July 12th, 2015.
From the photographer:
To see these two families come together (they basically escaped Miami right before Hurricane Matthew hit), two families who have seen these two men grow up and grow together, it was just one of those weddings where I couldn't help but get tears in my eyes at the amazingness of it all. Instead of a traditional bridal party, Javi and Victor each had a Maid of Honor, Javi's sister and Victor's best friend. Their ring bearer was their dog. Their officiant was a close friend. A few close friends performed songs during the reception. They decorated the space with mementos from their own home, framed pictures and photo books. It was just so amazing and romantic and a dream to photograph.
