The Falling In Love Story...
Good things happen when you least expect it. At least, that's what happened in our case. The short & sweet version of it is that we were introduced by our closest friends, as friends, and something indescribable and undeniable brought us together for something more. In the summer of 2011, we were at a backyard birthday party for one of our best mutual friends. After a few drinks, Mercedes stumbled down the hill to give Jess a giant hug...which led to falling onto the grass....which led to an unforgettable first kiss.
Nothing was the same after that! Something just clicked. For both of us. After quickly realizing that we could not picture a life without each other in it, we became one. We moved in together, talked about marriage and dreams of a family all within the first few breaths. We just knew.
In December 2014, we went away to a little cabin in the woods on Quadra Island, in British Columbia, Canada. As much as we love our families, we decided this year we wanted to escape the holiday rush and celebrate, for the first time, together, with Max (our dog), as our own little family.
On Christmas Eve, the day after arriving, we got ready for a day of exploring the island. As we pulled into a beach parking lot, Jess had a strange facial expression as she took a deep, DEEP breath. Mercedes asked what was up and Jess replied "I'm just so overcome by the beauty of this place!" ...alright then, Jess! We got out of the car at Rebecca Spit Marine Park, and began exploring an empty, closed campground right on the beach. It was winter, so we had the place to ourselves! Mercedes stood on a wooden platform and looked at the ocean while Max trotted along the water's edge. Jess came walking over to join. She slipped and fell on the slippery wood, like a nervous goof. After helping her up, we both looked at the view together. All of a sudden Mercedes felt a tap tap on her knee. She turned around and Jess was down on one knee, holding a clam shell, opened with a diamond ring perfectly perched on a bed of moss. She asked, and with tears in her eyes, Mercedes said yes! We were so excited - we wanted to take pictures to remember this special moment. Jess got up to get the camera and...slipped again! Except this time, Mercedes was right there to catch her. We proceeded to enjoy a very memorable trip. Quadra Island will always have a special place in our hearts!
Our love of nature & exploring have been common themes throughout our relationship. We are most happy when hunting for mushrooms together in the lush forest, or exploring wherever the wind takes us on one of our many road trips. Our first road trip, to California together in the summer of 2012 (where we had nothing planned or booked except the Dr. Phil show!) set the tone for many more amazing adventures together. Now, nearly 5 years later, after supporting each other through both of our schooling, the beginning of our careers , 2 surgeries, a dog and 3 moves... we are so overjoyed to be sharing our love with all of our closest friends and family in the most perfect setting. We are so excited for the people we love the most to join us together under the trees for our forest wedding this August.
We will be getting married at Cheakamus Centre, an outdoor school and ecological reserve in Squamish, BC (Canada). The location could not be anymore perfect for us; a teacher and a conservationist! Our woodsy wedding theme will include native wildflowers, ferns & greenery (foraged by one of the brides), mis-matched recycled and thrifted vases, and lots of DIY! We look forward to all the future has in store for us. Moving away from the city and closer to nature. Our first home together. Our first baby. Our story has only just begun.
