A Providence Affair
We were engaged in September of 2014 and a few months later, decided to start casually looking at venues. We knew we wanted to get married on the weekend of the Boston Marathon, since we live in Boston and both love celebrating our city and all the runners on that day each year. However, we knew Boston would be crazy that weekend, so with a few ideas in mind, we headed to Providence for a day of venue searching. Lindsey went to Providence College and Chrissy has always loved the charm of the small city, so it was a perfect choice for us. The Providence Public Library was the first venue we saw, and it took no time for us to absolutely fall in love with it. The beautiful architecture, amazing staff and delicious catering company they worked with completely sold us. We cancelled all of our other appointments and toasted to the beautiful library we'd marry in on April 16, 2016.
Wedding planning was, shockingly, a lot of fun. Our 18 month engagement allowed us to truly enjoy the process. Most of the decisions were celebrated with champagne and we both agree the cake tasting at Artisan Bake Shop was the best part of planning! We both purchased our dresses separately, promising to keep them a surprise until the day of the wedding. It was so tough to not show each other but it ended up being an amazing surprise - we could not get over how eerily similar our dresses ended up being! Our wedding party wore gold sequins with black accents. Since as long as Lindsey could remember, she has been obsessed with anything gold… she won't even wear a dress with silver zippers! We knew our theme would include all things gold and sparkles, and that was true for our bridesmaids dresses as well! Each girl picked out a gold sequined dress they felt comfortable in, and the look turned out even better than our vision. Our "Brides Guys" wore black suites with black ties and suspenders to pull the look together. We completed the gold theme with a few sequined table-runners, gold framed photos, and a globe guestbook that guests signed with a gold metallic marker.
Our wedding week included a manicure and pedicure party at a nail salon in Beacon Hill, a spray tan party complete with wine and cheese at Chrissy's sister's house, and a rehearsal dinner at Bravo Brasserie in Providence… that turned into a wild dance party. On our big day, Chrissy got ready at her close friends' home in Providence (they too, are getting married at the library in November of 2016!) and Lindsey got ready at Hotel Providence. We wrote letters to each other to read the morning of and had an amazing time celebrating and getting ready with friends and family. We had a first look at the library and then hopped on a trolley to cruise around Providence, taking photos and drinking champagne! Our short, but meaningful ceremony was officiated by a close friend, and cocktail hour included a living art performer from TEN31 Productions pouring red and white wine. He was such a hit! The wedding was absolutely perfect and ended with glow sticks being thrown onto the dance floor by a friend, turning it into the dance party we both wished for. We finished our wedding celebrations with an amazing, sunny day in Boston on Marathon Monday, followed by a two-week trip to Southern Thailand. Thailand was the trip of a lifetime!
Life post-wedding has been so much fun. We are loving married life and it was wonderful that our celebrations kicked off a summer full of weddings. We cannot wait to see so many friends start their lives together too, and are honored to be part of their big days. We are already planning our next big trip… we will be heading to London and Amsterdam for Thanksgiving!
