The Love Story...
Nicole was halfway through her freshman year of college at the University of Florida when she got hired as a camp counselor at the YMCA. Her first day was a camp wide training where Amanda led the camp songs session. Nicole was attracted to her right away. All of that energy and confidence with rhythm too! They had a slow start, becoming friends first and much later realizing it was more than that. Once they acknowledged what was happening between them, they never looked back. Amanda moved to Atlanta to finish school right as they started dating, but even 300 miles couldn't stop them.
Two years and many road trips later, Amanda moved back to Gainesville to live with Nicole. Nicole gave her the best gift ever that Christmas- an adorable puppy named Dempsey- who brought even more spunk to their lives. After their time in Gainesville was up, the happy couple (and pup) moved to Tampa for Nicole to start medical school and Amanda to start her career in the creative field. They both learned to lean on each other for support through the many trials of that period but became much stronger for it. Two years later, the couple decided to move to Nicaragua on a whim. They worked there for a year with a nonprofit organization providing clinical services (Nicole) and creative expertise (Amanda) to an impoverished rural community. That year taught them volumes about not only international development, but also each other and their relationship. They would never be the same. After returning to the United States, they both got back to their jobs, Nicole as a medical student and Amanda as a Creative Director. However, it didn't take Amanda much time to decide she was ready to pop the question.
In April 2015, Amanda planned a fun weekend with Nicole's family at their island lake house. Nicole was told to ride with her best friend to meet the family (including Amanda) at the lake Friday evening after school. However, upon arrival, Nicole's mom handed her an envelope. Enclosed was a love letter from Amanda that became the first step of a path down memory lane. The path was made up of seven stops, each representing a year of their relationship, complete with handmade photo boards and thoughtfully selected songs. Not only that, Amanda had invited seven of Nicole's closest friends (and convinced them to fly in from all over the country) to be at each stop. The path ended with, as you might guess, a beaming Amanda with a beautiful ring in hand. Nicole of course said yes and they have been wedding planning ever since. The couple is excited to have graduated medical school last month (it was a group effort), to be getting married in 11 days (yikes!), and to be moving to San Francisco at the end of May to begin the next chapter of their story.
