Battery Gardens Brides
Thirty-three is a very special number for both of us, so when Shana first told Rita that she loved her, she did it with 33 French tulips. Each tulip had a note that gave Rita 33 reasons why Shana had fallen in love with her. Two years later on their anniversary, Shana proposed to Rita while on vacation in Tulum with 33 reasons why she wanted to marry her.
We had a short engagement, less than 6 months. We definitely knew we wanted to get married outside by the water so were thrilled to find a perfect spot at the tip of Battery Park overlooking the Statue of Liberty. We were probably most surprised to find that, at least for us, a 150+ wedding can be successfully planned in just several months, even without a planner. We wish we had planned more for the clean up tasks after the wedding. We went on our honeymoon two days after the wedding and it was an extremely stressful two days with hosting and clean up and preparing for our trip.
Our advice, other than plan for the aftermath, is to not take everything so seriously. The most important part of the wedding is the love between the couple, so make sure to continue nurturing it throughout the wedding process.
Our favorite part of the wedding day was the actual ceremony. We had a sake ceremony that included our parents to bond the families together, and Shana's father blessed us under a Tallit, a prayer shawl, that was passed down from Shana's great grandfather.
