details

Tell us your love story!

We met in 2001 back in Hawaii, where we were both born and raised. Toast was the opening act for a concert I was a part of. We are both singer/songwriters.

What about the proposal?

Toast proposed with chocolate and a ring. She had stuck words on individual, beautiful organic chocolate bars- “Will You Marry Me?” and each bar was a wrapped present! She proposed on Christmas day.

When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?

We knew after we first sang together, late 2001.

Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?

We definitely knew we wanted an outdoor ceremony and we also knew it needed to be somewhere in Palos Verdes, as that place is very special for us.

What surprised you during planning?

It was surprising to realize just how much detail goes into planning a simple elopement! We actually started off planning a wedding. It was easy to know what we wanted, such as the kind of cake, flowers, what we were going to wear….the difficult part was the guest list. Then we started to let what other people wanted get into our own planning. The planning itself started to feel like it was moving farther and farther away from Us and our Truth and what we were really doing. That’s when we decided to elope!

Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?

We wish we knew just how fast the day would come and go! We would’ve maybe savored more of every moment.

Any advice for couples planning weddings now?

We would say to do what YOU want to do, not what anyone else, like family, wants you to do.

What was your favorite part of your wedding day?

Our favorite part was actually AFTER! LOL! Later that night, we found ourselves picking up a late night snack. I still had hair and make up, but we were both in jeans and sweats. While we waited for our our food, we looked at each other and said, “Wow! We’re married!!!”
