Day After Shoot
Oh, you, just a normal afternoon...strolling through Santa Ynez Valley with the ridiculously talented Abi Q Photography, taking dreamy pictures of this gorgeous pair. The best part? This shoot took place the day after these stunning brides were married on the Grammy's by Macklemore & Queen Latifah!
This couple is beyond sweet and in love!
Wendy told us a little about her and Mo's love story...
The day we met was the day that forever changed our lives and kind of made history. We met through a mutual friend at a bar one night in 2012. We were supposed to meet the year before, but because life, the stars, or the cosmos weren’t aligned perfectly, it didn’t happen. There was just something so spiritually perfect about our encounter. It’s as if time stopped and the only thing that mattered was what was in front of us; each other.
From that day on, we were inseparable. We became best friends or what we called, “Bro’s.” Deep down there was a sense of belongingness, which at times was scary to think about. Was this really it? Is she the one? A lesbian couple? Our bond was undeniable, something inside was telling us we would always be together so we decided to get matching tattoos. ANAM CARA was written on our rib cages with the date 12-12-12. Anam Cara refers to a celtic spiritual belief of souls connecting and bonding. This belief says that when an individual connects completely and openly with another individual, their two souls begin to flow together. This is when you have found your soul friend, your most sacred place in time, your Anam Cara.
We decided to give it a go and officially date early 2013. Acceptance and respect was something that we struggled attaining with some people. We stood strong and together and decided that our love is something no same-sex couple or any couple should be ashamed of. Love is love. We were engaged in April, 2013 before the same-sex marriage law in California passed. When the law passed in June and we were at the West Hollywood Rally, it was one of the most beautiful days in history. The legalizing of love between two human beings of the same sex was a huge step for civil rights.
With this, came an opportunity to attend the Grammy’s and be a part of history by getting married LIVE! We were hesitant at first, not sure if this was going to be real, a hoax, or a prank but we submitted our information to producers. We were sworn to secrecy and not allowed to talk about it with family or friends until the day of. It all became real after we left rehearsal at the Staples Center. We were legally wed live on national television on January 26th, in front of millions, with 32 other straight, same-sex, young, and old couples, during Macklemore & Ryan Lewis’s performance of “Same Love” by Queen Latifah and serenaded by Madonna after! We had a standing ovation, everyone crying, and even got Jay-Z, Beyonce, Paul McCartney, Katy Perry, and a slew of others congratulating us. It was beautiful. It was epic. It was a moment in history that demonstrated hope, acceptance, change, and love.
