National Zoo Engagement
A brief bio (where you are from, what you do, etc.):
Matt and I live in Washington DC with our two dogs. I work for a health care nonprofit and Matt is a consultant.
A brief bio of the dogs:
Dexter and Matt were a dynamic duo before meeting me. Dexter was Matt's first dog, and unbeknownst to either Matt or Dexter, I was not a dog person. After some time, I moved from his place into Matt and Dexter’s apartment. Though Dexter was not thrilled at giving up his side of the bed, he swiftly fell in love with me just as Matt had. And I fell for Dexter! A few years into living together, Matt and I decided it was time to add a fourth member of their family and adopted Cersei. Although she was *challenging* (to say the least), we couldn’t imagine our lives without her. Dexter and Cersei became the best of friends, and love egging each other on to this day.
How did you meet and fall in love?
Though we both went to the College of William & Mary and had a large number of mutual friends, Matt and I didn't meet until both had graduated and moved up to DC for work. One random night in 2016, the two of us were independently at a club in DC, Town Danceboutique (RIP), and Matt approached a mutual friend in the group that I was with. Matt and I began talking and haven’t stopped (especially Matt) since!
Why did you choose this location for your photos?
We love our DC neighborhood of Mt. Pleasant and on beautiful days love walking to the National Zoo. It was a no brainer to take pictures there. We knew Megan would do an amazing job!!!
Give us all the details about the proposal. How and where did it happen? Was it a surprise?
Oh my, it was not a surprise at all. I am not a surprise person at all. We got engaged at William & Mary during Matt's 5th reunion. All of our friends were there to celebrate with us, but the weather was atrocious. We wanted to do proper engagement photos, and the first couple of times were also rained out. Luckily Megan was so flexible and easy to work with. We captured a gorgeous afternoon (and the rain clouds stayed away).
