Tell us how you met and fell in love!
We were both at a mutual friend’s party and we talked, even kissed, but we never got more than each-others first names. I was able to find out a little more about Dan through mutual friends after that, and I friended him on social media. One day, a few weeks later, I sent him some cheesy message and said to contact me if he ever wanted to go out. About a week after that, I received a random text from Dan saying he was free that evening if I wanted to get together. So, that afternoon we met for a movie. That was late November, 2010, and we’ve been together ever since.
Was there a proposal? Tell us about it!
Dan had given me several not-so-subtle hints that it was time for us to be engaged, and after nearly 6 years together, he was right. So I bought the ring, and was waiting for the perfect time and the perfect scenario to pop the question. One Sunday in August, 2016, I had spent the day with my family, and Dan was with some of our friends. Shortly after I got home, Dan came in to freshen up before meeting some friends for dinner. At some point that day, it became clear that was the day I needed to do it. So, I went into the bedroom and found the ring from its hiding place, came into our living room and got down on one knee. I called for Dan to come into the room, and when he came around the corner, he was completely shocked to find me kneeling, presenting a ring. After a sappy, but sincere speech, I asked him to marry me. He finally answered with the anticipated yes, and we went to dinner where he was eager to show our friends the ring.
Are you planning your wedding right away or giving yourself some time to just be engaged?
We’ve were engaged for almost 3 years, and finally had our wedding for September 4.
What’s the best thing you’ve learned from your significant other?
We both learn from each other every day to be more patient and loving, and I don't think that will ever change. Most people would say that our personalities couldn't be more different, and that comes with a lot of friction and head butting at times. But it also pushes us to be more understanding of each others needs and to grow closer together as we compromise and navigate through life.
What’s your favorite part of your relationship?
Our favorite part of this relationship is knowing that no matter what happens, no matter what difficulties we face, we have a kind, loving, and devoted friend to come home to.
