Tell us how you met and fell in love!
Kim: We were both home from college in Northern Virginia for summer (before going into my senior year at Tech and before Haley’s sophomore year at ODU). As soon as we met, we both knew it was something special. What was even better was how surprised we were that our paths hadn’t crossed sooner. We learned that our families lived just 20 minutes from each other, and we also realized that we spent two years playing varsity high school basketball against each other—Freedom vs Loudoun County, the biggest rivalry in the area for girls basketball. We spent 9 months doing long distance while we were both in college. Following my graduation from Va Tech, I moved to Virginia Beach to start a career while Haley finished up her last two years of college at ODU—and the rest is history!
Was there a proposal? Tell us about it!
Kim: Yes! After dating for over 3 years, Haley decided to plan a little drive to the beach for us on the morning of Oct. 28, 2017. She packed a cooler full of mimosas, threw some beach chairs in the back of her truck, and we were off—this was a usual occurrence for us. I would soon learn that she had a little something extra packed that morning. To my surprise, Haley wrote “Be Mine?” in the sand—just as she had done 3 years ago when we first started dating—but this time, she doted the question mark with a little black box *queue the water works*. And that was and has been the best day of both our lives—that is, until November 10, 2018!
Are you planning your wedding right away or giving yourself some time to just be engaged?
Haley: We've already set our wedding date for November 10, 2018 in Key West, Florida! The planning started almost immediately (thanks to Kim lol) after being engaged, but the nice part has been that we've have gotten to spend over a year together being engaged before the wedding takes place.
What’s the best thing you’ve learned from your spouse-to-be?
Kim: The best thing I've learned from Haley is how to be a better person... and how it's important to always be kind and patient.
Haley: The best thing I've learned from Kim is how to love with everything you have.
What’s your favorite part of your relationship?
Kim: My favorite part of our relationship is how adventurous we are—we are always traveling, always trying new things, and always experiencing things for the first time together as a couple.
Haley: My favorite part of our relationship is how spontaneous we are. We really do live every day to the fullest.
