An Atlanta Affair
Tell us your love story!
From Alisa: “We met at work - we both worked in Human Resources at Lanier Worldwide, Inc. (now known as RICOH); Lisa and I had the same boss, who was the head of the Benefits Department at Lanier; Lisa actually was one of the people who interviewed me for my job at Lanier (smile). We started dating about a year after I started working at there.
I’ve always believed the best relationships start with a foundation of friendship, trust, common interests, and the kind of differences that excite and positively challenge and inspire each other. We had all of these as we got to know each other and start dating and it’s continued 16 years later. Every day is a love story for us!”
What about the proposal?
From Alisa: “Lisa's proposal to me was "picture perfect." She totally surprised me that day. She just told me to dress up and that we were going out to dinner. Surprised me with a limo that took us to an amazing restaurant in downtown Atlanta where Lisa had rented out the dining room for the evening. After eating a wonderful meal, Lisa hid my ring in her sock, lol. She reached down and got the ring and had a custom made storybook that was our own version of "Beauty and the Beast!" The end of the story that I read had "Beast" proposing to "Beauty;" Lisa pulled out my beautiful engagement ring and proposed to me on 5/5/2005. I said "YES, cried a lot and the rest, as they say, is history.
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
Lisa realized she was first in love with me when she realized she didn't want to be away from me anymore. One day we had a "date" and spent the afternoon together in Atlanta and by the end of the day she said she realized she didn't want to be away from me and was in love with me.
She remembers falling even more in love with me on a date we had to see Alvin Ailey. She says she remembers what I was wearing, the look I had on my face as I watched the performers. She remembers hoping I'd always have that look on my face when I was with her.
I first knew I was in love with Lisa when I found myself bringing her breakfast baskets to work and baking her sugar cookies just to see the surprised look on her face. Our co-workers would see me coming in like Little Red Riding Hood (not to say Lisa was the wolf in this analogy, lol), and wonder what was really going on! It was then that most of our co-workers figured out we were more than just working colleagues! We'd stay at work long after everyone else left for the day just to spend more time with each other...I knew then I was in love and never wanted to be apart from her.
