Tell us your love story!
Annie and I (Elizabeth) met almost 10 years ago in nursing school. We quickly became the best of friends and it wasn’t until after college that we realized our friendship had grown into something much deeper. We began dating in the fall after graduation and have continued to fall even more in love with each other each and every day since then.
What about the proposal?
Annie proposed to me in San Diego at our most favorite spot on the beach. We had vacationed each year in Pacific Beach and watched the sunset each night in this particular spot. And on the second day of our vacation in September of 2016, she got down on one knee and asked me to be her wife right there in our spot. And of course I said Yes!
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
This has always been a very special story to tell. Annie has known all of her life that she was gay. But I had never had feelings for another girl before in my entire life. But there was something about the person Annie was that made me fall head over heels in love with her and opened my eyes to the most beautiful life I could have ever imagined. As I said before, we were friends long before we were anything more and it was those years of friendship that nourished our love and provided a strong base for our relationship to grow on. So there was no one moment in time that we realized that we were meant to be together. I think our souls just knew from the moment we met almost 10 years ago that we had found the one we were meant to find all along.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We are both nurses at MGH in Boston so we definitely knew we wanted a big city wedding! So things like city lights and lots of gold.
What surprised you during planning? What was easy, what was difficult?
What surprised us most was how much fun we actually had while planning! We got to work early, which saved us a lot of stress in the end, and we were able to enjoy the last few weeks of our engagement. Of course there were bumps along the way but overall we enjoyed planning our big day together!
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
Don’t over think the little things too much; things that no one else would notice but you two. We wish someone had told us that while we were planning.
Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?
Our advice would be to always be sure to listen to each other’s input/ideas throughout the planning process so that the wedding truly feels like it captured both of you and the things that make you the beautiful couple that you are. And to truly cherish and enjoy every minute of your big day because it really does fly by in an instant.
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Our favorite part was our first look. It was such a unique and intimate moment that belonged to just us that we will cherish forever.
