Outdoor North Carolina Nuptials
Tell us your love story!
I was at Oakview Recreation Center playing softball when Alicia walked down the hill with her friend. The second our eyes met time literally stood still. I never believed in love at first sight, but since that day, I do. It may have been the bright lights in the background but I couldn't see anyone else but her. We now have a dog and a cat, Coco and Patches.
What about the proposal?
Alicia proposed to me on November 5, 2016. We were supposed to go to Washington, D.C. to see our best friend, Erica, but life had other plans. AJ, Alicia's brother ended up having to have an emergency appendectomy so we weren't able to go to Washington, D.C.
Alicia and I decided to make a fire in the fire pit on our patio. It was soooo cold outside! Alicia pulled the ring out of her pocket when I was not paying attention and held it out to me. She asked me the one question I have been waiting for since the day I met her.
I cried, she cried.
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
S-We met when we were both seniors in high school and I was headed off to college after the summer. Every weekend I would drive back home no matter what the weather was just to be with her. I transferred closer to home because I missed her too much.
A- After high school and Sarah was in college driving to and from school every weekend and I would go visit her. Watching her leave to go back to school left an empty feeling in me. I knew then that I needed her forever.
Going into the wedding planning, what did you definitely know?
We always said we wanted an outdoor wedding. Other than that we were clueless at the beginning.
What surprised you during planning? What was easy, what was difficult?
The most difficult part was finding a venue for our budget and our vision. Once we picked the venue everything fell into place.
Is there anything you wish you knew while you were planning your wedding that you know now?
During the planning process people would tell us how stressful it was to plan their wedding and how the day was not worth it or it was a blur. Alicia and I made it a point to try to be a stress-free as possible and have fun at the wedding. This was the day we had been waiting for for 9 years!
Any advice for couples planning weddings now? Anything you would have done differently or anything you’d like to add?
Relax. This is your day. enjoy the company and the memories. Somethings may go wrong or little details may not be as planned but it will be YOUR wedding day so make the most of it!
What was your favorite part of your wedding day?
Everybody genuinely having a good time! To see people celebrating OUR LOVE and knowing that we weren't stressed out.
