St. Paul Grooms
Tell us about your planning experience!
We really wanted to plan the majority of the wedding ourselves, which we did. However we found that having a day-of coordinator in order to make sure our vision was executed on time and without issue we had to have a day-of coordinator help facilitate all the day of activates. What about the venue?
Landmark Center, St. Paul – We picked the Landmark Center because it was a place I always dreamed something big would happen for me at. I never knew exactly what that would be, but I knew something in my life would happen there. We also picked it because Chris and I love the building’s architecture inside and out
What was your overall style/theme?
We decided that a Black Tie wedding is exactly what truly represents us and who we are. We are an interracial couple, so we thought black and white for colors with a hint of gold was a perfect choice. I (Antonio), love high fashion, we are both sophisticated and classy by character, so we wanted an elegant affair and, lastly, we wanted something very upscale for everyone to get very dolled up for. It was important to have all these elements to showcase who we are. We wanted to show everyone that gay weddings can be traditional in style, elegant and over the top with a little glam!
What made your ceremony unique?
Our ceremony décor was to die for! As guests entered the venue, they walked into a fully draped entrance with a huge chandelier hanging from the 2nd floor in the middle of the gathered drapes. We had 14 rows of chairs all wrapped in white ruched spandex chair covers and our front reserved row in black chivari chairs. Down the aisle was a white runner with three tiered vases with floating candles on each side, all the way down the aisle. Also, at the beginning and end of the aisle were two tall dramatic floral arrangements made up of hydrangeas, three different colored roses, lemon leaf and curly willow on each side as well as rose petals all the way down on both sides of the aisle. As you looked up in the huge atrium, you saw draping in the famous “gift” design from our draping specialist. She lit the draping with colored LED lights from every pillar in the room. It was absolutely stunning!
What was the style inspiration behind for your reception?
Our theme definitely dictated our centerpieces, flowers linens and place settings. We wanted everything to look clean, sophisticated and very high end. We went with white floor-length table linens for all the tables to go with the white ruched spandex chair covers. Our cake and head table had gold sequins, floor length table linens with a black undertone. The black chivari chairs from the ceremony transitioned into our head table chairs. The tables were setup for a fancy steak dinner and bottles of wine. Each place setting had a gold charger plate and black napkin to tie in the theme.
Any advice for couples planning now?
Choose vendors who you find a connection with, it makes a world of difference. Each of our vendors got excited with every change, never complained and made impossible things happen. They were truly all a pleasure to work with and made the planning process super easy.
