Classic Hollywood Glamour
This styled shoot is super special because the night before the shoot, this real couple got engaged! The inspiration behind the shoot was simple: the creative team wanted to capture old Hollywood magic by incorporating vintage rentals, oyster shells dipped in gold, plenty of champagne, and some lush florals.
From the couple...
Tell us how you met!
Erica and I met through mutual friends. Erica had a bet with her friend that she would be single for a while. Erica knew that she was going to lose from the moment we first started talking. From the first date, we both knew we loved each other. Shortly after dating, Erica was scheduled to study abroad in London. What seemed like the worst thing ever for a budding romance, actually turned into the best thing for our relationship because we learned how to really communicate. We spent every possible moment texting or face timing and really learned how to resolve conflicts verbally. We both have said I love you's in the past and been in long term relationships...but both of us knew that this was something different. I never thought I could be passionately in love and be treated like a Queen. I had this idea that I couldn't have it all in the past...until I met Erica.
What about the proposal?
Erica proposed to me at the first place we said "I love you". It was very early on in our relationship, and very "lesbian" of us in that way, but we both knew. In terms of our proposal she had been planning it for months without my knowledge. She arranged my sister to come out from Minnesota to be there. My sister "made plans" Saturday night. I was pissed because I wanted to spend time with her and my nephew. Erica suggested we do a date night and told me we would go somewhere nice. I got dressed up thinking we were going to my favorite restaurant "Mr. Chows." As soon as we got in the car Erica told me we had a couple stops on our date. She was acting super weird, and would barely talk to me. She took me to Franklin Canyon and I figured we were going for a walk before our dinner reservation. "That's cute...an evening stroll", I thought.
We then arrived at the place where we had first said I love you and there were flowers strategically placed. Before I could make sense of what was happening, Erica took my hands and told me how much she loved me. She stated that she promised my dad (while he was dying) that she would always love and take care of me. She then got down on one knee and asked me to be here wife. The ring was absolutely perfect.
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
We both knew from our first date that this was it for both of us. We have been inseparable from the moment we met, and our passion, love, friendship, and excitement for each other has not changed since then. We are pretty lucky. We are so different in so many ways and we compliment each other. Erica is a planner, she likes order and organization. She thinks in terms of efficiency whether its the quickest route to get somewhere or the way the dishes are put into the dishwasher. She is also incredibly analytical, and has a mind that questions everything. Where Erica is very left-brained, I thrive more with communication, empathy, and intuition. We are a great team.
