Tell us your love story!
We wish there was some sort of serendipitous story about how we met five years ago, like catching each other’s eyes from across the room and knowing it was meant to be from a simple flirtatious glance. However, we met in your fairly-typical way by being introduced through mutual friends. Circles run small in Boston, so it was surprising we weren’t at least somewhat familiar with each other already. Yet, this allowed us to start out with a clean slate, free of any preconceived notions, judgements, etc. and the opportunity to really get to know one another without any external influences.
What about the proposal?
We went on our dream vacation to Paris just after Christmas in 2015. It was our first international trip together and we spent ten amazing days there, ingesting the incredible food, partaking in the nightlife, exploring the architecture, and immersing ourselves into the culture.
It was made clear months earlier that Andrew, when the time was right, would be the one to propose. Paris, the city of love and enchantment, seemed like the perfect opportunity to get engaged. After almost a week of Andrew securely carrying two matching Cartier watches through the streets of Paris, looking for the perfect place to propose and hiding the secret from Blake, we had an improbable stroke of luck and secured New Year’s Eve dinner reservations in the Eiffel Tower. Perfect place, right? Wrong! Andrew is not one to make a scene and decided there were too many people surrounding us at dinner on New Year’s Eve and since we were so close to the end of our trip, Blake figured a proposal wasn’t in the cards. On our last night in Paris, after a wonderful dinner, we went back to our Hotel suite and in the bedroom, on the bed, there were two cases with watches that had inscribed on them “you + me” “me + you”, and it was there that Andrew proposed. In the end, it didn’t matter where it happened, no matter what, it was going to be an incredible moment for both of us but becoming engaged in Paris was a fairy-tale come to life.
When did you know that you were meant to be with each other?
Our relationship is one that, over the years, has been built on a tremendous amount of trust, compromise, shared values and goals. One night, while visiting friends in NYC, we were lying in bed and for the first time, in the most sincere and genuine voice Blake said, “I love you.” It truly was from that moment on, I knew this man was the only one I wanted to say goodnight to and in the morning say “Good morning, my handsome man.” We have been through career changes, Harvard graduate school, moves, illness and still want to hold each other’s hand through the unknown of what the future holds.
