We first met online in November of 2010 on OK Cupid. We met for the first time in person in January of 2011 at T's in Andersonville (obviously!) and we were exclusive a month later. We knew almost right away that we were meant to be. We are each other's first love and it only took us 5 years to get engaged! We went ring shopping together, so it was only a matter of time until it would become official.
One night in January 2016, Colleen asked Jenny to marry her after "fake falling" on the Maggie Daley Ice Skating Ice Ribbon. The next night Jenny asked Colleen with a cake decorated to say "Will You Marry Me?" that she secretly had placed inside the display case at Bittersweet Pastry Shop. And the following night, we took our parents out to dinner at Cantina 1910 (which used to be T's -- where we met) to tell them of our engagement.
We got legally married 11 months later, on December 30, 2016, at the courthouse in Skokie, Illinois. It was just us and our immediate families, all dressed in plaid flannel shirts, per our request and it was perfect. Six months after that, on June 30, 2017, we had the formal ceremony at Revolution Brewing.
As we first started planning, we reached out to several venues in Chicago and Revolution Brewing checked all our boxes. Good price, perfect vibe/atmosphere, tasty food & drinks, and really amazing staff. Our photographers and DJ were preferred vendors of Revolution, plus we read reviews online and had friends who gave recommendations. Hair and Makeup was selected from a friend's recommendation as well. In terms of the look for our wedding, we turned to Pinterest & Etsy. After we decided on our color scheme, we went to town putting everything together. We had elements of plaid throughout as an homage to our courthouse wedding. In terms of planning our wedding, half of us loved it and the other half not as much!! In the end, we came in under budget, got everything we wanted and could not have been more happy with all of our vendors. We literally had 2 perfect weddings!
